May Giving Campaign Staff Thank You - 2020

Thank you for choosing to protect Lowcountry land and waterways this May Giving Campaign. We couldn't do this work without you.

Boone Hall Plantation Protected Forever

For more than 300 years, Boone Hall Plantation has been working farm and forestland, first as a lucrative plantation and later as one of the most popular attractions in Charleston. On November 8, Lowcountry Land Trust, the McRae family, and state and local leaders announced the permanent protection of Boone Hall Plantation. A conservation easement, which closed on November 5, ensures that the property’s forests and farmland will remain forever, eliminating development pressure in rapidly growing Mt. Pleasant. Thank you to all the FLOURISH 2020 sponsors, volunteers, speakers, panelists and attendees who contributed to an amazing dialogue about the ways conservation and business can work together to foster a thriving Lowcountry.

2020 May Giving Announcement

Hi There! I’m Ashley Demosthenes, President and CEO of Lowcountry Land Trust, and I’m overjoyed to be able to share a special announcement with you, especially in these challenging times. Thanks to the generosity of the Pathfinder Foundation, every gift donated to Lowcountry Land Trust in the month of May will be doubled. That’s right DOUBLED - up to $25,000! That’s $50,000 to preserve special landscapes that provide our much-needed places to get outside, exercise, and experience fresh air and sunshine with our families in these turbulent times. If your family is anything like mine, what has kept us going throughout this crisis has been the ability to go outdoors. If we lived in a place that did not have clean air and water, open spaces, bike paths and walking trails, birds soaring overhead and ladybugs to “study,” imagine what this historic pandemic experience would be like for all of us. Quite different, I imagine. That’s why our mission—and yours when you support Lowcountry Land Trust—is critical. Join us in preserving those special places that define our quality of life, keep our air and water clean, and protect greenspaces and waterways that are so incredibly vital to our health and wellbeing. So here’s the deal: we need you to join us in our month-long campaign. We’ll never meet our goal without people like you who believe that a gift of $10, $25, $100, or $1000 can make a real difference in this community. Here’s what we need you to do: #1. Please give whatever you are able during the month of May. This funding is vital to keep our land protection work going. Set a reminder to make your donation before the end of the month to qualify for matching funds from Pathfinder Foundation. https://www.lowcountrylandtrust.org/donate/ #2. If you don’t already receive our e-newsletters, click the following link to be added to our list so you don’t miss anything. https://www.lowcountrylandtrust.org/subscribe/ #3. Please share this post with your friends. We appreciate anything you can do to help us get our mission out to other people who want to protect the future of the Lowcountry.

Feed Your Soul: Rice Harvest & Supper Recap

At Feed your SOUL: Rice Harvest & Supper, guests visited Jimmy Hagood’s protected property in the ACE Basin to partake in the annual Lavington Farms Charleston Gold Aromatic Rice harvest. He explained that by cultivating this land for agricultural use, his family is working to ensure that this protected property continues to thrive for generations to come. This message resonates with the purpose of Soul of the Lowcountry and our hope is that with events such as this, our members can engage with our work and be a part of the dialogue that links our way of life to the importance of conservation and the Land Trust’s work.
