The Land Trust welcomes Chris Vaughn, Director of Field Operations

Vaughn_photoThe Land Trust welcomes Chris Vaughn to the staff as Director of Field Operations. Chris will be working to leverage conservation efforts and strengthen landowner relationships with his initial focus being in the ACE Basin and South Lowcountry.

Chris has enjoyed a variety of assignments in the natural resources and conservation field over the past 19 years. After earning an MS in Forestry from Clemson University in 1996, Chris joined Westvaco Corporation as a Field Forester and then as a District Forester. In 2004, Chris entered the timberland investment arena and, after a few years of this travel intensive lifestyle, Chris landed a position with his first national nonprofit, The Nature Conservancy, in Charlottesville, VA as Land Protection Specialist. In 2008, Chris returned to the Lowcountry to manage Ducks Unlimited’s Lowcountry Program, an effort that has secured easements on 125,000 acres in coastal SC.

At the heart of it all, Chris has a deep appreciation and affection for the Lowcountry. He resides on James Island with his wife Kathryn and their two children, Will (4) and Emma (2). Chris enjoys many hobbies including hunting, fishing, running, snowboarding/skiing, cooking and being a dad – the most rewarding and time consuming hobby of them all.
