Ashley Demosthenes
Director of Conservation

We are excited to announce Ashley Demosthenes is our new Director of Conservation.  The Director of Conservation is a new position that grew out of our strategic planning process. We are rethinking the way we do conservation and expanding our resources needed to fulfill our mission.  Working with our Land Protection staff Lewis Hay, Lisa Shealy and Barbara Holmes, Ashley leads and manage the trust’s fundamental mission of land protection and stewardship. She will serve as the key land relations person for the organization and endeavors to develop and maintain programming and landowner engagement necessary to meet the land-related obligations and initiatives of the trust. Ashley has a long history in conservation, beginning her conservation career in 1998 with The Nature Conservancy in South Carolina in the ACE Basin. In 2000 she began working in land protection across the SC coast, providing technical assistance, stewardship and GIS support out of McClellanville, SC.   In 2002, Ashley expanded her work to include conservation easements, conservation buyer transactions and cooperative land acquisition projects with public partners across the state.  She earned her real estate license in July of 2004.  In 2012 she became the ACE and Savannah River Basins Project Director where she worked closely with private landowners and conservation partners on land protection, funding strategies, stewardship, government relations and private fundraising. Ashley graduated with a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont. She has a lifelong love of the Lowcountry where she and her husband and two daughters live, work and play.

We are thrilled to welcome Ashley and look forward to our work ahead!
