Lowcountry Conservation Initiative
The initiative is an alliance of three well-established organizations - the Avian Conservation Center, the Lowcountry Land Trust (LOLT) and Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. The initiative is funded by a $100,000 BP Foundation grant to help protect South Carolina Lowcountry wildlife and open lands through land conservation, injured bird medical treatment and educational outreach.
This exciting and unique effort will endeavor to protect South Carolina Lowcountry wildlife and open spaces through land conservation, injured bird rehabilitation and greatly increased education and outreach.
The Land Trust has a strong and successful history of forming public and private partnerships benefiting riparian and wildlife corridors. With these funds, and in close collaboration with our partners, we will expand our land conservation efforts for the natural habitat and cultural landscape of the Cooper River, Francis Marion National Forest and Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge regions. This area is already a national treasure that greatly enhances the Lowcountry's quality of life. Additionally, this initiative will augment existing private land conservation which provides an extensive network of protective wildlife corridors, enhances water quality and contributes to the scenic natural and rural character of the area.
